SR6 conclave

This was my first conclave. The camp was very nice. But what do you expect for the smoky mountains!

This is camp Buck Tom.

These Adirondacks are very nice! Makes for a fun time and quick setup and pack up of camp.

Hmmmmmm maybe not much of a view, but a great afternoon nap!

The "lockin"

The boys wanted to do a little something different, so they planned a lock in at the national guard.

It was a good time. The boys played man hunt till late late in the night.

One patrol even slept in this trailer.

Us adults cooked in Dutch ovens while the boys ate pizza.

Lots of new fun. While it is spring and perfect camping weather, the boys enjoyed an easy quick one night adventure.

Beavers at camp, brings a smile to my face.

What do you do when beavers start daming up the scout lake, we'll you find a beaver guy like me.

This guy was biting those sticks in half they they were candy. The beaver was all bit up from fighting.

This was a very nice beaver, must have been around 40lbs.

Camporee

This weekend was camporee, I didn't get to hang with the scouts much but I got to help in the kitchen.

Here's a quick pick of the 440 sausage patties I cooked.

We also cracked and scrambled 600 eggs.

This is my lunch station, only 240 burgers to grill. Mr Lee also had around 150 hotdogs I think.

Inside Camping and Axe Work

I don't know what it is, but I love to camp in old buildings. This dining hall is from th 40's, and I really like it. I wish I had the money to buy the rights to it from the council. Then it would get the attention it deserves!

The boys like camping in it because it's easy!!

Ahhhhh alls quiet.

The only problem is no place to hang my hammock, and sleeping on the ground is for rookies.

What do scout love to do, but no one lets them do??

CUT STUFF DOWN! When we found a lot that someone wanted cleared and we needed poles, we'll it going to be some fun work.

What do you do with a bunch of poles? Hmmmmm let's make something.

Over all a really great wet weekend.

Cub Camp - spring break 2015

The great things about Cub Scouts is that they just want to have fun. And when you are camping 3 nights and it's going to rain the whole time, leave it to cubs to figure out how to have fun!

Riding in the Rain. CHECK

Hiking with your pack because it has Girl Scout cookies in it. CHECK

Making Mountain Man Breakfast before fishing. CHECK

CowBoy cooking our meals. CHECK

Staying out of the way, when we wake up to bad stuff. CHECK!

Overall we had a great camp with very few problems. I'm ready to go back already.

Knives, knives, and another knife

Every scouter will tell you he likes knifes. It goes with the outdoors. It goes with being a man. It goes with being a boy! I remember one of my best boyhood knifes. A spyderco. I loved that knife, it had a large opening for your thumb to help you open it quickly. Over the years, I have no idea what happened to it. I kinda expect it to show up one day when my son comes home from Grammys with extra stuff.

I've been wanting a new knife, really bad. I've had that urge to buy one. Not just any knife The perfect knife. Ive looked at stores, shopped the internet, even dreamed of a knife stuck in stone like the Excalibur just waiting for me.

Cue the angles from above and turn on the spot light to shine through the clouds, I think I found her.

The Spyderco Air.

I love the hooked bill of this blade. It has great curves!

The main frame of the knife is Ti, and the handles are glass fiber, and the blade is a special high carbon alloy.

The knife however does not have a pocket clip. I'm a little worried about it being so lightweight ( just a little over an ounce) that it might not stay in hiking shorts well. I wish it had a spot to place some para cord on it for a lanyard. 

This is the spyderco air and the SOG mini Aegis side by side. The SOG is a very nice knife. It has a speed assist opening which some people might not like, but has a great locking blade. It's also very light weight and has a pocket clip. This is my sons knife, and he learned about it at summer camp last year and just loved it. It's a little heavier than the Spyderco Air but not by much.

In my quest to find "the knife" I also bought these CRKT knifes. They aren't bad but I wouldn't suggest them unless you got a good deal on them like I did. I think on WOOT they we're around $20, that's not too bad for a descent knife. 

The Japanese looking knife, is hard to open. That thumb grip on it, doesn't work so great. The handle is also kinda thick.

The green CRKT knife has a ball and spring in the thumb assist. Not a good idea. I've had sand and dirt get in it and stop it from working.

Even though it has that problem, I still carry it a lot. Mainly because I don't really care if I loose it.

Is the Spyderco Air going to be my favorite knife? I don't know. Right now I like it a lot. However the price of the knife may stop,me from carrying it much..........all that being said, that's an awesome blade design, I'm sure it will be a great knife.
